Jeff Lipsky came in to My entertainment class last night to talk to us all in the class. I have to say is he was dam cool. He was a really down to earth guy and very open with us on how he works and lights. And gave good story's that you know happens but don't always get to hear. Also if you think you have not seen his work you should go take a look at it. Just want to say thanks for coming in Jeff.

We had to make a promo video in my working photographer class last week of a person in class with us. I was teamed up with Joseph Escamilla. It was a good time, I have never done anything like this before. So it was all new to me from the filming to editing. We had to do it all for this video but I had a good time doing I of this. I really enjoyed my self. I am really happy with the video it some work, but for my first time doing some thing like this it is not bad.

AD shoot fun

Alright It has been a little bit from the last time I posted something. The other day I had A ad shoot with an art director from school and the ad brief was for a food bank for kids. I have not done a shoot for this art director but she has been a assistant art director on some other ad shoot that I have done. So I have work with her just not shot anything for you. She has been easy to work with on other shoot so I was looking forward to working with her and her Idea for the shoot was a good one. It was to have a kid in the images who you can tell is dirty and to show that they are trying to get food. They will have a plate in there hands and there will be food that you can put on it. This was the first time that I had to shoot kids like this. I have shot kids before but you just them playing or something like that. So that was one thing to think about. Also to get the right kid was the other big thing that need to be done. We found the two kids we wanted to use in this image and it was already to be be shot and three days before the shoot was to happen one of the kids had to back out. so we still have one kid to shoot but we not to cover our bases. so we need to find another kid fast! You can not shoot just one kid because you just don't know what is going to happen, they may just have a melt down and not be able to handle the shoot on this one day. So you need to have at least two kids. So we have like ten kids to pick from and we pick the top three we like just in case this happens. so we get the back up kid to come in and he was good. the other big thing you need to think about is how long the kid has been working on set. You do want to over work them one because the state says so and they get tiered. This is the 2nd kid that we shot. I am not using names just to be safe so we will just call them kid 1 and kid 2. I was a good day all around everyone showed up on time and there was no melt down by any kid on set they all had fun. Here is a shots of the assistant art director that was on the shoot. I used him to test the light that we were going to for the shoot. I have also worked with him on shoots. This was how I met jessis was the assistant Art director on Andrew's shoot. That was a fun and crazy term of shooting. so as always thanks for stopping by.

Just having fun

I talked about how I have been just taking a camera and shooting what ever I like. This has been unbelievably fun for me. I still love setting up all the lights working with art directors and a lot of production. But there is something about just taking out a camera some film and maybe a fill card or two. It takes you back to a time were you first started shooting just because you loved it and everything was new to you. This was from a trip back home to Oceanside to see my family and chill with some friends. This was my friend Travis in this image at the top. This image to the right is my friend mike. We where eating before we when a seen The Watchmen. This was a good time and a lot of fun. As you can see this is HP5 but I pushed it to 1600 ISO for the low light, I was run it Kodak X-Tol 1:2 of 11mins in a Jobo.
I can't say how much fun this is to shoot this way. I have talked about it a lot over the last few weeks but if you don't feel the same love for this anymore just pick up your camera and go shoot anything. It does not matter what you shoot or if anyone else like it but you. It is about getting out there and making images for you not anyone else. As always thanks for stopping by.

Printing Business cards

This weekend I when to my Instructions house and printed business card on his press. I t was a good time I really enjoyed it a lot. I took a printmaking class and that really help me under stand the process a little bit essayer then if I when in to it without it. I took a bit of time to get the press printing right but it was fun to workout the problems that we came across in the set up. I also took pic some pic of the print. I'll put some of the pics up when I run the film like I always do and a shot of what the card looks like. I really like the card a lot. I got to thank Paul Soady for his help in designing the and letting me use his press. Thanks for stopping by

2nd TDS shoot

Here are the images from the 2nd shoot for my TDS class that I have been telling you about. These are for the Mock magazine that I also told you about in the last few blogs that I have put up. These shots are for the tech talk that I had to writer for the mock mag. So they are simple shots of the bike in my uncle's garage. It faces west so the light in the late afternoon is awesome so yet again I just use natural light with some fill. I wish I would have had my uncle stand in on some of the images because the light was really nice in there at that time. I feel it would have added to the images that something extra it need. Also why not not he was there and it is his bike. If you want to know what the bike is. It is a 07' YZ450F that's a Yamaha if your not a bike person. I was happy to shot this bike because I am in to bike and this was Nathan Ramsey supercross bike. This means that the bike is really trick. Here are two other shots of the bike from the same side just a bit of a different angle.
Also all of these shot have not been retouched at all so they are a bit ruff. They are so you have something to look at as I talk to you about them. In this one to the left if the was a person I feel it was be way more interesting to look at as and image. The one just below is not bad for what it is I feel that these image are good for what they are going to be used for but I want to go back and shoot my uncle with it as more of an environmental portrait then just some images of a bike. So over the break I will be shooting this for my self and my book if I like the images enough. So when that is shot I'll put them up for you to look at. Thanks for stopping by.

Back to Oeacnside

This shoot was for the same class that I did the maxim style shoot. We had to make a mock up of a magazine for this class and we had to write a small story or article for it and I did a tech talk. It was on Nathan Ramsey's YZ450F that he raced. My uncle Tom owns it now so I got to shoot the real bike witch was nice and the bike is awesome. It was just for a tech talk so I did not go crazy on them but as Always I will put some up in a day or two after I run the film. So thanks for stopping by.

A shoot for my Moto Culture class

I have class at school where we are shooting an editorial story for a magazine the we pick to run it in. We picked Maxim for our magazine to look like. Here are some shots of the set up. These pic's are from my iphone so they are a bit small. This are for me to just have a visual referents of how I light the shoot. You can see my main light the beauty dish and the two hazylight and that is made by broncolor. You can also see the fill cards at the bottom of the frame and the one to the right of the frame. In the next pic you see more of the background lighting. you can see the back three light s that I used for making the background white and the one close to the bottom of the frame is for and edge light for the model that will be sitting on the bike lateer on in the shoot. So here are some unretouched shot for you guys to see and a few outtake for you to see that it is not all work we do try to have fun on our shoots. so here you go. This was a fun shoot today and I would like to thank everyone for the help. This not what I shoot but it was fun and there is some work that needs to be done on them and how I shoot them but I'll get it down soon. thanks for stopping by.
