So I was at my mom's house the other day and found some of my old pic's from back in the day. Man they are really bad, but I found some that I took of my bothers kids from when they where really little. I have not seen them for years. I think they are from like 1999 right after I got out of High school. Anyways I going to start them next week so that I can give then to my brother and sister in-law for Christmas. I think they will Get a kick out of them and they will get me in to the darkroom which I miss. It is going to be a good time like the old days. Can't wait!!!

Being interviewed for the friest time as a photographer.
So yesterday 4 of my friends and my self where interviewed on The Candidframe.com about our Photography the end of us going to school and our careers as Photographers. We all had a good time doing the interview, But it was a bit weird for me and I sure my friends too. Really I can only speck for my self about this. The how Idea of being a Photographer has been a dream of mine for years. It started in high school for me. So to be at the end of my formal education and talking about what I think it is to be a photographer kind blows my mind a bit. I am look at the beging of what I think is going to be a bright future for not only me but my 4 friends that I did this interview with. So go check out the interview at www.thecandidframe.com and as always thanks for stopping by.

Oh yeah also go to http://sweetsixteenshow.com/ to get info on our grad show and come by and see all 16 of us who are graduating from Art Center this term. Its going to be a good show.

A day with Dam Winters
I was lucky to be one of the 16 at Art Center able to spend 4 hours with Dan Winters and have him show us some lighting technicians and how he likes to light some of his work. It was a small light set up, He used 3 to for lights in each of his set ups. What he show up you done need a ton of light to light but it is how you shape the lights that you are using. Also it was nice to see how Dan works with people and how he can get things from them. I really can not say how lucky i feel to have been apart of this. Also Dan is a easy to talk to and ask questions of. And he comes across as if he really likes to teach.
Dan also spoke later that night about his book that has just come out. He also talked about his work more in depth witch is always nice to here from the Photographer him self and you do not always get that. So that was nice to get.

The R6

Last Thursday I shot my buddy's new bike he just got a few week before. So I gave him a call and asked him to bring if he could bring it by so that I could photograph his bike. He was all about it and was happy to bring it by for me. so here is one one of the shots from the shoot from last Thursday. It was a lot of fun to shoot and it was good to see my friend. The bike is a 2009 Yamaha R6 in all black with gold on the rims and fork. That is a really clean looking bike. I am looking forward to shooting nore bike. I think I am going to try to get my uncal Tom to bring his new Aprilia SXV 550 to shoot this weekend. Thanks for stopping by.

Whale watching
So a few weeks ago I had a chances to go on a whale watching trip for class credit. I have always wanted to go on one so I jumped at it. I get to go see whales and get credit for class? I don't see a downside to this. And there was not, I had so much on this trip. It was a all day trip out of Santa Barbra and it when out to the Channel Island and we just floated around all day. So I had to make a small persontaion in class so I made a video to show and talk about a bit. So check it out hope you like it. And thanks for stopping by

Shooting fun
So this last Saturday I had another spec ad shoot with some art directors that that I go to school with. It was for Ridel wine glass. We where shooting 3 of the 6 wine glass they Ridel makes. So we shot three three models and they where to give the feeling of each wine they where to be. It was a pretty simple shoot three girls on white not to bad at all I had three asstistan on the job so it when really smoothly. I could not have done it without these guys they where a huge help on the day of the shoot. I also had a ton of help on the preproduction from my good friend and roomie cecilia Gavia. who made the whole thing so much easer for me. There was a lot of things that I did not have to thing about because of her help. One more reson why the shoot when so smoothly as it did for me. I can not say enght about my crew on that shoot if it was not for them my shoot would have not gone the way it did. So thanks a big thanks to you guy for all you put in to it.

I has been a long time.
Hey every one hows it going? I have not been on for some time now and not a ton has happen but, I would say a lot has gone on in my life. One school is coming to an end for good. Yes my academic career is over and it is now time to go back to the real world and try to make it after a 3 year break. On the work front I have done a bit of assisting for a photographer that I really like and his work is what I want to shoot for a living. I learned a lot from the two time that I work with him and his first assistant. They both gave me a ton of good info on how to shoot cars and run a real world set. It is not that far off of what we do at school but there are little things that are different. But that is just because of all the time on set and the experience of shooting a lot of job.
I got my web site up and my book is started. But your book is the kind of thing that is never done you are always working on it. I have come to the realization that I need to shoot more people for my sports book. I have the action in my book but not all the jobs that I may get in the future is going to be a action shots. I'm going to get the job that is just a person shot. I need to be able to show I can shoot that kind of stuff. So in between shooting more AD shot and action sports I will be shooting more people with all the time I'm going to have on my hands.
Well I am not every good at writing a ton. So I'm going to take off but I will be putting up more blog again so keep stopping by and checking in. And as always thanks for stopping by.

The new bike.
I have not been on here for a bit and I just wanted to show what I have been doing besides
photo. I have been riding mountain bikes for like the 12 to 15 year. Mountain biking was the first big love of in my life. I am not a bad rider but I was not good enough to make a living doing the thing I loved and this made me sad, But this is how I found photo. I started my taking pic's of my friends riding and this is how I found that I could make money doing something that I love so I when for it. I Still ride and will always ride my bike. I fell off for the last three years but I really need to get back to riding to make me feel normal again. I have two bikes that were put up here before and I'll put them up again and my bike that I am building. This is my hard tail it is a 2004 Haro escape
8.3 it is a awesome and a good all around great bike that has done well for me. I have beat this bike and it always ready to go again. This is my Big bike it is a 2003 Iron Horse SGS PRO. This down hill bike a been as equally a awesome bike and has been a ride that takes a lot for and has not need to a lot of work done on it. It has need the normal things done to it like services and thing of this nature but other then that it just keeps on going. And I am not the smooth ride in the pack out there so it gets beat really hard too just like the Haro.
As i was saying I am building a new bike b
ecause why not. The frame is a older frame but is in amazing shape and was a bike that I have wanted for a long time but could not buy one at the time they where being made. but all the parts that are getting put on are new and up to date parts. I really can't want to get this bike out on the trail I know it will be an awesome ride and will be fun. I will up date as the build moves on and it makes it ut on the trail. Thanks for stopping by.

A day of futbal
Today my niece and nephew had soccer games. I use to go to them all the time but now that I live in LA I don't get to go to them like I use to and I miss that. They are fun to go watch and I have been watching them for sometime now. My nephew little Mat has been playing for the last 9 to 10 years and my niece has been playing for the last 4 or 5 years. So as you can guess I have been to a lot of games. And my brother and sister inlaw are always there if they are not working and even if they are working they try to take a long launch to swing by to watch for a bit.
I just got my G10 in on Wednesday so I have been taking it all over the place with me an shoot anything I like. An why not shoot at the game. So
The G10 is a fun little camera and I'm glad that I got it and can tell I am going to have fun with it. Thanks for stopping by

Schools out for summer
Ok so it been about week that I have been on break and I have done some much needed sleep and then I came down to my hometown of Oceanside. This has been fun for me like last night a bunch of friends from Hoehn Mercedes were I worked before I started at Art Center when out and got some beer and wings. Man that was a good time we had not done that for about a year or so if now longer and even my buddy Alec can never go out do to his wife and kids got to go out with us. It was good to see him he is a good guy. I love photography and talking about it all time is fun for me but it is always nice to get thoughs momentes where it is every thing but photo. It's nice but the only thing is that when I do talk about photo they done know why I do what I do. The weeks of perep time weeks of sleepless nights or hours and hours of work to get one shot or even the photo nerd joke that only and photo person would get of find funny enough to lought for like 20mins and think of another photo nerd joke to go with the last one. I do always love the momentes that I have with my friends when I come home for a break but in the end I need other photo people or people in the industry I live in or what people like to call creatives. Thats is wired to me creatievs. Anyways I guess it comes dwon to that I love to come back to Oceaside but it is not home anymore where I live in LA is home now that I where my life is now. I guess it is ture when people say you can never go home. Thanks for stopping by

Easter Sunday

My mom was after me to come down for Easter last Sunday. I did want to come down be I was in finals and need to show bad. So if I could come up with a shoot down there then I could make it. I need to shoot two people for my entertainment class and I was like well if I shot my nephew and his friend I could pull it off. And he has played soccer for the 8 year with his friend and I think could make a cool image with them. So I did it and they were not bad. I was cool I had a good time with it. I was not sure how they were going to be getting there picture taken, because I know I hated being in front of the camera at there age. They are 14 years old and they seemed to not mined it at all. This was good for me I could sho

My promo video
If you remember a few weeks ago I talked about how we had to make a video about some one in my working photographer class. This is the video that Joseph did for me. We both had a good time making these video it was a lot of fun. Also school is coming to a end for the term. I have one final left it is tomorrow and then it is time to sleep normal again for a few weeks. Then next term starts up again and then that is it back to the real world witch is a bit wired after three years of being in school, but I think it is going to be a good ride and a lot of fun along the way. I know that school has been. I have meet a lot of good people and we will see what the future has to show me. Thanks for stopping by.

On an Entertainment Weekly shoot
As I have talked about before I have an entertainment Photography class. The class is about what it is named. You learn about how to shoot people more for editorial type work for magazine like Entertainment Weekly and other magazine like it. The Instructor for this class is Michael Kochman who is a photo editor for EW magazine. When he has a shoot he invites us to come on his shoots. And this Wednesday the had a shoot and the photographer was Matt Jones and he was photographing Anna Faris. The shoot was cool to seeand everyone on set was nice. Matt Jones was also a really cool guy he took time out of his day to talk to me when he could that was nice of him. I really enjoyed the day. Also Anna Faris was really hot and was really down to earth the little bit that I could see.Thank for stopping by.

3 hours with Jeff Lipsky
Jeff Lipsky came in to My entertainment class last night to talk to us all in the class. I have to say is he was dam cool. He was a really down to earth guy and very open with us on how he works and lights. And gave good story's that you know happens but don't always get to hear. Also if you think you have not seen his work you should go take a look at it. Just want to say thanks for coming in Jeff.

I really enjoyed my self. I am really happy with the video it some work, but for my first time doing some thing like this it is not bad.
Hope you like it and thanks for stopping by.

AD shoot fun

Alright It has been a little bit from the last time I posted something. The other day I had A ad shoot with an art director from school and the ad brief was for a food bank for kids. I have not done a shoot for this art director but she has been a assistant art director on some other ad shoot that I have done. So I have work with her just not shot anything for you. She has been easy to work with on other shoot so I was looking forward to working with her and her Idea for the shoot was a good one. It was to have a kid in the images who you can tell is dirty and to show that they are trying to get food. They will have a plate in there hands and there will be food that you can put on it. This was the first time that I had to shoot kids like this. I have shot kids before but you just them playing or something like that. So that was one thing to think about. Also to get the right kid was the other big thing that need to be done. We found the two kids we wanted to use in this image and it was already to be be shot and three days before the shoot was to happen one of the kids had to back out. so

Just having fun

I talked about how I have been just taking a camera and shooting what ever I like. This has been unbelievably fun for me. I still love setting up all the lights working with art directors and a lot of production. But there is something about just taking out a camera some film and maybe a fill card or two. It takes you back to a time were you first started shooting just because you loved it and everything was new to you. This was from a trip back home to Oceanside to see my family and chill with so

I can't say how much fun this is to shoot this way. I have talked about it a lot over the last few weeks but if you don't feel the same love for this anymore just pick up your camera and go shoot anything. It does not matter what you shoot or if anyone else like it but you. It is about getting out there and making images for you not anyone else.

Printing Business cards
This weekend I when to my Instructions house and printed business card on his press. I t was a good time I really enjoyed it a lot. I took a printmaking class and that really help me under stand the process a little bit essayer then if I when in to it without it. I took a bit of time to get the press printing right but it was fun to workout the problems that we came across in the set up. I also took pic some pic of the print. I'll put some of the pics up when I run the film like I always do and a shot of what the card looks like. I really like the card a lot. I got to thank Paul Soady for his help in designing the and letting me use his press. Thanks for stopping by

2nd TDS shoot

Here are the images from the 2nd shoot for my TDS class that I have been telling you about. These are for the Mock magazine that I also told you about in the last few blogs that I have put up. These shots are for the tech talk that I had to writer for the mock mag. So they are simple shots of the bike in my uncle's garage. It faces west so the light in the late afternoon is awesome so yet again I just use natural light with some fill. I wish I would have had my uncle stand in on some of the images because the light was really nice in there at that time. I feel it would have added to the images that something extra it need. Also why not not he was there and it is his bike. If you want to know what the bike is. It is a 07' YZ450F that's a Yamaha if your not a bike person. I was happy to shot this bike because I am in to bike and this was Nathan Ramsey supercross bike. This means that the bike is really trick. Here are two other shots of the bike

Also all of these shot have not been retouched at all so they are a bit ruff. They are so you have something to look at as I talk to you about them. In this one to the left if the was a person I feel it was be way more interesting to look at as and image. The one just below is not bad for what it is I feel that these image are good for what they are going to be used for but I want to go back and shoot my uncle with it as more of an environmental portrait then just some images of a bike. So over the break I will be shooting this for my self and my book if I like the images enough. So when that is shot I'll put them up for you to look at. Thanks for stopping by.

Back to Oeacnside
This shoot was for the same class that I did the maxim style shoot. We had to make a mock up of a magazine for this class and we had to write a small story or article for it and I did a tech talk. It was on Nathan Ramsey's YZ450F that he raced. My uncle Tom owns it now so I got to shoot the real bike witch was nice and the bike is awesome. It was just for a tech talk so I did not go crazy on them but as Always I will put some up in a day or two after I run the film. So thanks for stopping by.

Starting new projects
I have to look for models for my entertainment class. And it take hours to do this and find the ones you like. It not bad will LA Casting because you fill in the blanks and then they send out the casting call to a larg
e database that they have. And you get a ton of response back. The only thing is that sometime you get people the send back to anything and everything. Other then that this is a awesome service to be apart of.When I get this images shot I'll put some of them up. I also have and other project that is starting that is going to be fun for me to start. I will be making image about Mountain biking and it culture. I am a mountain biker my self so this is going to be awesome and I also feel that I'm going to get some great images out of this. I can't wait to start this project, I have not had a lot of time to ride with all the
work for school but I think this is going to get me back on my bike. This are my bike and I real miss riding them like I use to. So like I said I think this project is going to help me get back on my bikes like I want to and need to. As always I will post some images after the shoot.

Entertainment Photo

This last assignment in entertainment was to shot an environmental portrait. So I took my model for a walk around the neighborhood to a spot that I have found about a week ago by my house. it is a cool little spot that I like. shoot it natural light again. It has become a thing for me lately. It was a cool shoot had a good time. They are not bad but I do need to push it a bit more with the models. Have them work for me more but my people shoots are getting better. I shoot more Architectural, Ad and Action sport. So the people standing still is a bit hard for me but I am getting to the point were I feel like I could shoot images for a person and be good with it. But when I do shoot people I like to keep it simple.

Back to silver

If you remember a few weeks a go I put up some images of my Great grandma. I finally got time to print them in the darkroom on real silver not that inkjet stuff. I love the dark room so much but it is hard to get in there as much as I would like to with all the class. They look so much better the a inkjet to me. I had so much fun on Thursday night. I got a few extra hours and was like I have to go print tonight so I got to it and made some images the old fashion way in the soup. I suggest that if you have away to go print in a darkroom and know how to or want to learn how to go do it. You will remember what it is like or find out what it is like to print in the darkroom. It is awesome, it is like magic seeing that image come up for the firs

Lighting Demo with Robert Kerian
This last Wednesday we had a lighting demo with Robert Kerian at school on how to light motorcycles, it was a lot of fun and very informative. I would like to put up the images but at last they are not my images to do so with. Hhahah man that sounds dum. Anyway I really did learn a lot about shooting a motocyclce to a car and bigger. We also got to use a Briese Light on that shoot and that is a awesome light. To bad the Brises Light I hear is like $800 dollers to rent it, But if you can get the money for it. Do it that light is so dam Beautiful. this sounds like a ad for the Briese light but it is not. The big part to the story is that we got to see a good car shooter work and you do not always get to see that happen. Also get him to take the time to tell you what he is doing as he is doing.

running film
I got asked by a friend to run some b&w film for her. So today I started running and it is dam fun. I have started running film more lately for my self so it was not a big deal to help her out. I enjoy running film myself it is relaxing for me. I like techie stuff. I was ran 3 rolls of 120 HP5 shot at 1600 iso in X-Tol 1:1 at 75 deg. for 11mins. They turned out well and she was happy with what she shoot. The Mamiya 7II was used on the shoot if you waited to know. Well talk to you soon.

Helping a friend
Alright so tonight I helped out a friend shoot a project that she is working on right now. It is about a roller rink in the city of Burbank, CA. The rink is a weird place because it feels like it is trapped in time and could not move forward. It was cool just a little weird.

O-SIDE WEEKEND
I got an assignment to shoot a person 65 or over. I thought to myself "I don't have any photo of my great grandma". I called up my mom and asked her to call my great grandma and see if she would be around so that I could come down to photograph her on Saturday. My GGM was going to be around so I jumped on the train Friday night and head down to Oceanside for the weekend. It was cool because I got to chill with my family who are a big part of my life and I got pic's of my GGM. When I get the film run I'll put up some of the images that I like.
Tuesday, January 27, 2009
